Providers in NYC may order the vaccine through the CIR and NYS providers outside NYC through the NYSIIS. For questions, call the NYSDOH Bureau of Immunization at 1-518-473-4437 or the NYSDOH COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065.

Providers are encouraged to enroll in VaccineFinder once they are approved and have received the vaccine.

Reporting Requirements

Providers must record details of the vaccination into their system of record within 24 hours, and into the applicable public health system within 72 hours.

Important Information Regarding Vaccine Dosage

In some cases, two doses of the vaccine need to be administered 21 to 28 days apart. The second dose must be from the same manufacturer as the first dose. Appointment reminders will be critical to ensure compliance with vaccine dosing intervals to achieve optimal effectiveness. Providers should schedule a patient’s second-dose appointment when administering their first dose.

Medicare Advantage Coverage and Reimbursement

For calendar years 2020 and 2021, Medicare payment for the COVID-19 vaccine and its administration for beneficiaries enrolled in AgeWell New York MAPD plans will be made through the original fee-for-service Medicare program. Providers must submit claims for administering the COVID-19 vaccine to the CMS Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) using product-specific codes for each vaccine approved.

Consumers enrolled in a non-grandfathered group or individual health insurance coverage can receive the vaccine and its administration free of charge from a network provider, and during the COVID-19 PHE, can receive the vaccine and its administration free of charge from an out-of-network provider. Providers are prohibited by agreement with the U.S. Government from billing patients for the vaccine or its administration, including balance billing.
